We are thrilled to announce that a team of exceptional IT students from the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), assembled by the Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences (ITDS), has advanced to the final stage of the Tɛkrɛma Pa (Good Tongue) Hackathon 2025. This prestigious global competition is focused on leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and Text-to-Speech (TTS) to bridge the communication gap for persons with speech impairments. From a highly competitive pool of applicants, the UENR-ITDS team has emerged as one of the top five finalists vying for the ultimate prize. The Hackathon is supported by UK Aid and spearheaded by the Global Disability Innovation Hub, in collaboration with University College London and the University of Ghana.
Earlier today, I had the honor of seeing the team off as they departed for the University of Ghana to begin the competition. On behalf of the entire ITDS faculty and student body, I presented the team with a financial stipend to aid in their preparation. I look forward to joining them next week Friday for the grand finale. Let us all rally behind our team as they proudly represent UENR on this global stage. We wish them the very best and ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Prof. Peter Appiahene (Head of Department, ITDS – UENR)
