Dr. Peter Appiahene at the London Tech Week 2024
Commissioner Dr. Peter Appiahene, Head of Information Technology and Decision Sciences Department at UENR-Ghana was one of the esteemed guest speakers for the 13th edition of Tech in Ghana held in London UK. Tech in Ghana is a prominent UK-Ghana platform dedicated to strengthening and showcasing Ghana thriving tech ecosystem both locally and to the world. Since launching in 2017, it has garnered the active involvement of several multinational corporations, decision-makers, investors, fast-growing scale-ups, and founders from the region.
Cybersecurity education plays a pivotal role in equipping individuals and organizations with the skills and knowledge needed to safeguard against cyber threats. Storytelling in cybersecurity training is not just about conveying information, it is about creating an emotional connection and fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter. According to Sarah Moffatt, a renowned expert in cybersecurity storytelling, stories help to humanize complex data and make it more relatable and memorable.

Whilst in London, I also participated in the London Tech Week in Olympia which is the global tech ecosystem – where visionaries and entrepreneurs, investors and enterprise tech leaders come together in the right balance to accelerate the infinite cycle of tech innovation. The London Tech Week 2024 uncovered all the latest tech innovation. I learned visionary insights from cross-industry leaders, deep-dives into the start-up ecosystem and powerful conversations on social impact from the biggest industry names at the forefront of tech transformation, business, and politics. Areas covered included but not limited to Artificial Intelligence and The Future of Security and Data. Notable speakers within the global Tech landscape included Dr. Nicola Hodson -Chief Executive, UK & Ireland IBM, Clare Barclay- CEO, Microsoft UK, Charlotte Hogg- Chief Executive Officer, Visa Europe, Lila Ibrahim- COO, Google DeepMind etc. As I also lead the Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Ghana to organize the 3rd Edition of the Technology Fair in August 2024, Lessons learnt from these two global Tech events would be beneficial. As a Tech expert, I am committed to Ghana Digital transformation agenda initiated by previous governments, current government and future governments of our country, Ghana. As a developing Country, Technology is our surest bet for leapfrogging in nation building and development.
