Professor Peter Appiahene, Associate Professor and Head of the ITDS Department at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, has engaged the Speaker of Parliament to propose a collaboration aimed at modernizing legislative analysis.
He presented an AI-driven framework to digitize and analyze Ghana’s Parliamentary Hansards, enabling efficient, long-term tracking of policy shifts. The system, he said, would replace labor-intensive manual reviews and support more informed, data-driven decision-making. The Speaker, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, described the initiative as timely and significant, noting that while the institution has begun implementing related reforms, funding remains a major challenge. He added that they would welcome a review of existing systems to identify areas where the proposed solution could complement current tools, and expressed appreciation for the team’s insight and willingness to support the country.
