UENR Tech Fair 2026: Code Around the Clock
The 5th Edition of the UENR Tech Fair 2026 was successfully held on Friday, 26th June 2026, under the theme “Code Around the Clock: Equipping the Youth with Digital Skills to Build a Resilient 24-Hour Economy.” The event brought together distinguished government officials, university management, academia, industry leaders, technology enthusiasts, students, development partners, sponsors and members of the public to celebrate innovation and digital transformation. The programme commenced with the arrival of dignitaries, followed by the national anthem, a welcome address by the Dean of the School of Sciences, Prof. Samuel Fosu Gyasi, and the State of ITS delivered by the ITS President, Mr. Vincent Opoku. Mr. Jacob Mensah, Chairperson of the UENR Tech Fair Committee, outlined the purpose of the gathering, after which the Vice-Chancellor of UENR, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, officially welcomed participants and declared the event open. The opening ceremony set the tone for a day dedicated to showcasing technological innovation, promoting collaboration and advancing digital skills among the youth.
The event featured several insightful sessions, beginning with student innovation showcases where students presented and pitched innovative projects designed to solve real-world challenges. Participants also benefited from keynote presentations delivered by Prof. Michael Asante of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Prof. Peter Appiahene, Head of the Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences and Convener of the UENR Tech Fair, who shared valuable perspectives on emerging technologies, digital transformation and the role of innovation in national development. The programme was further enriched by addresses from prominent policymakers and public officials, including Hon. Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, former Deputy Attorney General and Deputy Minister for Justice, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Millicent Yeboah Amankwah, Member of Parliament for Sunyani West, Colonel Dominic Buah, Director of Operations for the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat, Hon. Mohammed Adams Sukparu, Deputy Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, and Hon. Charles Asuako Owiredu, Member of Parliament for Abirem. A major highlight of the event was the official launch of UENR as a hub for the One Million Coders Initiative, reaffirming the University's commitment to building digital capacity and equipping young people with practical technological skills for the future.
Beyond the academic and policy discussions, the programme celebrated innovation, collaboration and excellence through documentary presentations highlighting the impact of the Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences and UENR Tech initiatives, a special guest address by Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Clerk to Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, goodwill messages from strategic partners and sponsors, and an engaging expert panel discussion. The event also showcased the winners of the Best Programmer, Hackathon and CreateX Sprint competitions, recognizing exceptional talent and creativity among students. During the awards ceremony, outstanding projects, individuals and contributors who played significant roles in the success of the Tech Fair were honoured for their achievements and dedication. The programme concluded with closing remarks by the Vice-Chancellor, a vote of thanks, closing prayer, the University Anthem and an official photograph session. This was followed by an innovation exhibition, media engagement, partner interactions and networking sessions, providing participants with opportunities to exchange ideas, establish partnerships and explore innovative solutions that support the vision of a resilient 24-hour digital economy.
