ITDS holds first virtual information session for freshers

The Department of Information Technology and Decision Science (ITDS) at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) organized an Information Session program for first-year students and prospective applicants. The virtual program, which attracted hundreds of participants, was one of several pre-orientation options available to students interested in studying IT at the department in the 2024/2025 academic year. Students and their families had the opportunity to explore the academic, professional, and personal development opportunities available in the field of Information Technology at UENR.

Speaking at the virtual meeting's kickoff, the Head of Department (HoD) for ITDS, Prof. Peter Appiahene, explained that the primary goal was to provide both admitted and prospective applicants with more insight into the study of IT and its importance to Ghana's development. Prof. Appiahene outlined the impactful research and innovative solutions already produced by students in the department, ranging from developing mobile phone applications for detecting anemia in babies to promoting sustainable agriculture using AI and improving general healthcare delivery in rural communities whiles reducing paperwork in several sectors through cutting-edge solutions. The online engagement allowed participants to immerse themselves in the vast experience of high-profile faculty members who joined the meeting.

The lecturers guided the students through the various programs available in the department, including MPhil, MSc. IT, BSc. IT, and Diploma IT. They urged the freshmen and future applicants to explore the numerous opportunities available at the university to break boundaries in the field of IT in Ghana and beyond. The lecturers also encouraged students in the department to engage in various academic and extracurricular activities to maximize their growth. Assuring that faculty members are readily available to support the growth of future leaders, innovators, and creatives, the ITDS department is positioned as a hub for students studying information technology.
