Courier services are a critical component of modern commerce, ensuring the timely and reliable movement of goods and documents. However, many service providers, particularly small and local operators, still depend on manual, paper-based methods to manage deliveries. This leads to frequent delays, misplaced packages, and a frustrating lack of transparency for customers who have no way to track their orders in real time. These inefficiencies damage customer trust and
hinder the growth of businesses, particularly in the expanding e-commerce marketplace. To address these challenges, this project designed and developed a Courier Automated Tracking System (CATS) using an Agile (Scrum) approach. This allowed for a flexible, step-by-step development process where feedback could be continuously incorporated. The system was built with PHP for the backend logic and Firebase for its real-time database, enabling instant status
updates. The development process included thorough testing and iterative refinements based on input from administrators, courier agents, and customers. The result is a functional, web-based tracking system that provides distinct interfaces for administrators, delivery agents, and customers. Key features include secure login, parcel registration, unique tracking ID generation,
and live status updates. The system successfully automates the core tracking process, replacing error-prone manual logs and giving customers direct visibility into their shipment's journey from dispatch to delivery. This project demonstrates that a well-designed digital solution can significantly improve operational efficiency, accountability, and customer satisfaction in the
courier industry.
Research Area
Web App Development: Web Development research in Computer Science and Information Technology focuses on the design, creation, and optimization of websites and web applications that are accessible over the internet or private networks. This research area spans a variety of topics, including front-end and back-end development, web frameworks, web performance, user experience (UX) design, security, and emerging web technologies.
Front-end development research explores the design and functionality of the user-facing side of web applications. This involves studying languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as popular frameworks like React, Angular, and Vue.js, which help create dynamic, responsive, and interactive user interfaces. Researchers in this area often focus on improving the accessibility and usability of websites across different devices and browsers.
Back-end development focuses on the server side of web applications, where databases, server logic, and application functionality are managed. Research in this area includes database management, server configuration, APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), and the use of frameworks such as Node.js, Django, and Ruby on Rails. It also involves optimization of server-side processes to handle large-scale traffic, improve load times, and ensure seamless data processing.
Project Main Objective
The goal of this project is to design, develop, and implement a courier tracking system to monitor package delivery in real-time.
